Marble Blocks and Slabs Exports 2009-2018
Marble blocks and slabs is being traded extensively in large amounts globally, but only five countries are the greatest players in the game of exports.
Stonenews.eu, after studying the statistical results* of the International Trade Centre, the UN Comtrade and the National Statistical Institutes, is presenting the trend of marble blocks and slabs exports in the top 5 exporting countries from 2009 to 2018.
From 2009 to 2018, the total value of marble blocks and slabs exports globally increased by 26.82% while the quantity moved slightly up by 1.22%. The top players in the marble blocks and slabs exporting game based on the total value of exports are in order of rank Turkey, Italy, Greece, Iran and Spain.
As seen at the diagram above, Turkey is by far the largest exporter of marble blocks and slabs in the world, amounting to $ 944.19 millions in export value only in 2018, more than double from the second Italy with $ 435.92 million in 2018. From 2009 to 2018, Turkey’s value of marble blocks and slabs exports went up by 100.33%, Italy’s increased by 52.77% and Iran’s by 32.34%. Greece managed to enter into the global game and maintain a strong position during the last decade, which explains the impressive 407.55% rise in value of exports between 2009 and 2018. On the contrary, Spain is the only country that had a decrease in value of exports by -54.96%.
Turkey’s most successful year was 2013 with $ 1.12 billion value of marble blocks and slabs exports. Italy’s record high was in 2017 with $ 452.46 million, while Greece’s was in 2018 with $ 342.34 million. Iran’s best year was 2017 with $ 192.58 million value of exports while Spain’s peak was 2013 with $ 333.96 million, after of which began its downward trend.
No big changes occur when it comes for the quantity of marble blocks and slabs exports. Turkey remains on top, a far cry from the second Italy, while there are rearrangements in the other places.
From 2009 to 2018, Turkey’s quantity of marble blocks and slabs exports increased by 57.97%, Italy’s by 15.81% and Iran’s by 38.92%. Greece’s quantity of exports moved up by the massive 232.38%, while Spain was the only country in decline by -30.58%.
As for unit value, things become different, as Italy is the country that exports steadily in the highest price per tonne during the decade, mainly due to the extended value of white marbles exported. Greece is second as is is also a great white marble producer.
As seen at the diagram, Greece managed to surpass Italy in the race and achieved the highest price per tonne in 2018. From 2009 to 2018, Turkey’s price per tonne of marble blocks and slabs exports increased by 26.82%, Italy’s by 31.92% and Greece’s by 52.70%. On the other hand, Spain’s price per tonne of marble blocks and slabs exports moved down by – 35.11% and Iran’s by -4.74%.
